TOOT! TOOT!

Yeah, that's my own horn that's being tooted there. I took second place in the Military Photograph category at the recently held 2008 Atlanta Photojournalism Seminar. The above photo is my winning image, which I shot while in Iraq last year.

It was early morning at an Iraqi army facility/ checkpoint in Baghdad. The soldier in the image is pouring tea just before heading out on a patrol through the area. It was a really cold day and the sun, which had just risen, felt really great. A few days later snow fell, which was like the first time that had happened in like 40-something years.

I'm interested in what the first place image was, but I was pretty jazzed with the second place nod. All in all there was a lot of good work featured there.
